The Kenyan Legendary musician popularly known as the queen of Jazz, Achieng Abura died on
Thursday evening (Mashujaa day) while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta
National Hospital . She passes away at a time when Kenyans are marking the
yearly Heroes Day ,usually celebrated on October 20th. Afro-fusion
queen Achieng Abura ,on numerous occasions was recognized as a hero in the
music industry even in her role as voice coach for the Tusker Project Fame
reality show. Her death shocked Kenyans who flocked to social media to express
their raw emotions and condolences following her unexpected death. Reports
indicate the Afro-Jazz and Afro-fusion star has been ill for some time now.She
had also posted messages online about her health .
"I have lost over 50 kgs in the last three Years. Everything is
hanging and weak. Walking is a problem with pains all over. Doctor says I must
add 30 kgs then lose it as I exercise and firm up. The irony of life, I was not
even losing weight intentionally! I allowed life to get the better of me. Learn
from my mistakes," read her Facebook post read.
The mother of one, was both an Afro-Jazz and gospel musician was also
composer and pianist.At the Tusker Project Fame Academy she was in charge of nurturing the contestants
vocals. Her illness is however undisclosed She had been admitted at Kenyatta National
Hospital on October 13, 2016.She was a role model to many Kenyans and her style
was admired by many upcoming musicians.Many Kenyans believe Achieng abura had a
golden voice.
