Migori County
as at 2009 had an approximate census population of 1,000,000 people comprised
of many females than males. With a constant growth rate of about 3.8 % per
year. The county is expected to host approximately 1,240,000 persons by 2017.
Statistics shows that that the youth
form a bigger number in this county with
49% being children below 15 years and 78% being persons falling in the age
bracket between 1 year and 30 years
.This means that the voting population of the youth could be 78-49= ( 19 %)
.Now almost the entire youthful population of Migori County are not happy with
the current Government in one way or another for one two many reasons. Our
research from social media platforms and on the ground shows that the next
Governor of Migori County could be Ochilo Ayacko based on his past development
record as an MP and political stability
despite having slipped off the ODM wing of politics one time. However much just
a handful of youths are also backing other candidates, it is already clear who
might be the next governor for Migori County.

Assuming
majority of youths vote for Ochilo Ayacko then it means Incumbent Governor
Okoth Obado will have to ensure a good majority of the elderly persons vote for
him. A population of about 22% off the total population which if at all the two
or three or four candidates all bank on this population then the outcome will be
very obvious .Ochilo Ayacko will still carry the day.
With the
wave of a bad name fast spreading amongst the current county government
directors and other appointees, it’s already lost for the incumbent since such
persons do not have the same influence they had at the beginning from wherever
strongholds they emerge within the county. This means that Governor Obado is
left with none but political sycophants who are of no use. His task ahead is to
influence other new influencers to his camp so as to see the light at the end
of the tunnel.
Mismanagement
of funds and abuse of office are some of the issues that has made the youths
decamp from the incumbent Governor’s team claiming they have been neglected for
five years and do not wish to make the same mistake again. One of the strongest
anti Obado activists is homegrown talented Artiste Lang’ Katalang’, also
immediate former Chairman Migori Performing Artistes Association formerly of
Migori County Times Newspaper ,who has for over a year now embattled the County
Director for Youth , Gender and Sports Mr. Silas Jonyo who reportedly conned him of a
ksh60,000 after an official performance presided over by the Governor himself
among other complains from other youths emanating from the same office, proposals
being a center of attraction. That matter is said to be lying with the Ethics
and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) as we speak. The fearless musician joins
other strong youthful activists from the county who are bent on sending Okoth
Obado home.
Meanwhile
its not clear what the ODM nominations will bring forth or rather who will
emerge the flag bearer for the gubernatorial seat owing to the party’s bad
history when it comes to favoritism. The youths however have dismissed claims
that Raila Odinga’s decision to have a suite voting will affect their decision.
According to an electorate ,the youths are decided on who they want to vote for
other than fronting Raila as their presidential flag bearer.

Migori County with most of them chanting Ochilo

county government offices for funding
incase they emerged viable
enough.Migori County youth began to send proposals after another ,then the
unexpected began to happen
1)About all those who presented their
proposals were never called back to
elaborate or explain what their
intensions were,all they had were empty promises
2)The office of the governor never spared
a single day to interact with the youth on
their oredicaments and prosals and what
they feel about the government
3)In most cases youths were dissapointed and demorolized after being
turned down few days to the deadline of
urgent proposals,
My highest suspicion is that the County
Government might have vouched a plot
to withdraw these moneys from the public coffers either to benefit
themselves or for a future untold plan,I
repeat these are my suspicions not
accusations.Anyway this is not the right
time to come clean because we have an
alternative to all these problems,we are voting in Ochilo Ayacko as our next
governor
