Sigiri Bridge

By Alex Mutua

- Call it a manifestation of pedestal crisis in Budalangi after Ruto and Uhuru's only hope backfires last minute.

- Kenyans are asking questions as to  what exactly  could have caused the Sigiri Bridge collapse.

- A number of masons were injured after the Sh1.2 billion Sigiri Bridge which was under construction in Budalang'i collapsed on Monday.

- Those injured in the Jubilee's flagship project in Busia county were rushed to hospital. The bridge, linking Bunyala South and North, came down barely days after President Uhuru Kenyatta inspected the works.

-According to President Uhuru  the bridge was fully sponsored by the national government and was to be completed by the end of this month .Almost the same time the Jubilee Government had set aside to Launch their manifesto.

- Common sense has it that the brigde could have been hurriedly completed to beat the launch deadline hence be a part of the Jubilee manifesto as one of their biggest achievements.

- The bridge which was being constructed by a Chinese company was being touted as one of the benefits of Busia county to back Jubilee government

 - The bridge collapsed barely two weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta inspected it during his campaign tour in the area .

- The Chinese company has now come out to speak over the collapse The Chinese firm, Chinese Overseas Construction and Engineering Company has accepted responsibility for the collapse of the KSh 1.2 Billion Sigiri bridge.

That the company was also baffled by the collapse since the standards and specifications for building the bridge were followed.

-According to Nation, the project manager Jerome Xzue Hua termed the incident unusual defending the company over incompetency claims.

-   “We have experienced engineers and we are equally baffled by what happened. We hope to find the root cause of the problem and rectify the matter,” Hua was quoted by Nation.

- Hua revealed that the bridge will be repaired but the cost  is likely to go up,something that could take Kenyans a couple of days or months to deal with.
