Gambling and specifically betting is gradually becoming the only activity youth can take part in actively considering its influence in not just our country Kenya but the world at large. In it's earlier stages there was just the normal betting procedure being followed but ever since the inception of middlemen in the activity, things have never been the same again.Scammers emerge on a daily basis in the name of selling tickets of matches assumed to be fixed while a few youths prefer to go the long way by referring guys to betting sites or to scammers and their pages.
SELLING GAMES
Ronald Karauri CEO of Sportpesa, Kenya’s biggest betting company |
These particular organizations or individuals majorly use Facebook platform to advertise their games through their Facebook pages where they post the matches in form of betting tickets,in most cases two or three games .The tickets usually do not disclose the particulars of the games to be sold though odds are usually visible. They use the censoring technique. These odds are usually huge ,about 150 odds per ticket and this attracts many people visiting these pages or Facebook accounts.Anyone yearning to be successful in this activity must always observe the above norms.Just like any other business its prudent enough to consider such vital ideas which would attract more clients to purchase games from a particular scammer .The modes of payment are usually through the use of international money transfer platforms like Western Union and Skrill hence do not allow the use of local mobile money transfer methods like M-Pesa which would somewhat expose the sellers personal numbers to their clients. However in situations whereby a seller is not privy to international money transfer platforms then they will prompt their clients to use Mpesa Till numbers which are safer on the sellers side.Their Facebook pages too must be having a huge following in terms of number of likes so as to attracts a huge traffic and show proof of trust and confidence to the client. Many persons buy games from these sellers with the feeling of authentic wins without even considering if there is a source of these matches or its more of mere guesswork. Most of these pages demand for advance payment usually ranging between ksh 1000 - ksh 8000 hence its assumed that a single scammer can sell up to ksh10,000 and over in a single day bu using the trick of match fixing.Incase of random predictions the seller will demand that payment is made immediately after winning ,usually an amount ranging between ksh300-ksh500.Predictions can earn one approximately ksh1000 to ksh 4000 a day depending on the outcome of the matches.
REFERRALS AND ADVERTISING
Some youths involved in this lucrative business do refer people to the betting bookies/book-markers earning them ksh100 per referral and in most cases of such a person uses this money to gamble in the next matches then there is a possibility of making profit if the outcome turns positive. other individuals major on referring gamblers to previously discussed and over popular Facebook pages for fixed matches. They get paid by individuals or organizations running such pages.Another group of youths also refer people indirectly through the use of advertisements. They post screenshots of the games sent and the amount of money they won, usually big amounts.Their presence on such posts attract more clients to such pages hence good for business. The individuals are paid according to the number of referrals made. Basically this is just how the youths have devoted their free time to making money amid the current state of things in the country which juggles between poverty, joblessness and massive corruption acts.Youths have began to live large with some being able to fund their college education with money earned from gambling. It is however advisable that you gamble responsibly.A few youth have committed suicide and some given up in life after certain unpleasant results show up.
