KENYA : FUEL TANKER EXPLOSION LEAVES 40 DEAD ALONG NAIROBI-NAIVASHA HIGHWAY

The Nairobi -Naivasha Highway fuel tanker accident that occurred on the night of Saturday December 10th has so far claimed the lives of 40 people with more deaths feared to continue streaming in.The fuel tanker  lost control and burst into flames leaving 9 GSU officers dead among the reported 40 with several other vehicled burnt.Initially the number of deaths was at 11

"Fire caught cars on both sides of the road .The track was coming from Nairobi but those heading to the city were also burnt" .Said Edwin Wafula,a survivor.

The accident occurred due to the chain of knocks among the cars immediately after the fuel tanker burst into flames.Speaking to the media ,Deputy Commissioner Isaac Masinde confirmed the number of casualties with Red Cross officials saying rescuers had taken 30 bodies to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.



NTSA boss Francis Meja on the other hand confirmed 12 vehicles have been burnt including a 14 seater matatu and others private cars.

Among the vehicles was a pick up carrying administration police officers.3 of them are among the dead.8 magazines of the guns they had were recovered from the scene of accident.
