- The Kenya Police Service in Nairobi has held major meeting ahead of the August General Election
- The meeting all divisional commanders in Nairobi identified 10 hotspots in Nairobi that needed major surveillance ahead of the election
-However Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome assured residents that they will be safe as they are prepared for anything The Kenya Police Service on Tuesday, July 4, held a major meeting at Utalii Hotel.
- The meeting which was led by Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome was attended by all divisional commanders in Nairobi.
- Koome identified 10 hotspots in Nairobi County that violence would likely occur as Kenya prepares for the August General Election.
- Bonyeza Star did note the 10 hotspots as ; Ziwani, Landhies Road, Globe, Dandora, Makadara, Mowlem Savanah, Mukuru, Sinai and Umoja.
- The police commander further said that all the slums in Nairobi are under surveillance as they could be a wave of violence during and after the General Election.
- “The list is long but generally all informal settlements are on our watch list. These areas with large populations and we shall deploy extra number of officers. The threat level in these areas is higher,” Koome was quoted by the Daily Nation.
- Police went ahead to assure residents of their safety during the election and warned politicians who are planing to incite supporters that they will be dealt with accordingly .
- “Where force is required, we shall be governed by the law. The use of force will depend on circumstances,” Koome said.
- Earlier European Union observers claimed Kenya should brace itself for violence after the August General Election.
